Project Description
OPERAS exemplifies the pathway of transformation from a national initiative into a distributed European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC). Incorporated as a non-profit association under Belgian law (AISBL) in late 2019, OPERAS was included in the ESFRI Roadmap in September 2021 and is now on track to become an ERIC by late 2027 or early 2028. The OPERAS-PLUS project (2022–2025) has laid the foundations for this transition by guiding OPERAS through the preparation of its statutes and technical and scientific description, to be delivered by the end of 2025 for feedback from the European Commission. OPERAS-PRIME marks the next stage, focusing on achieving the necessary level of organisational and operational readiness for the official ERIC creation request.
