Quality Assurance Service

The Peer Review Information Service for Monographs (PRISM) gives publishers the opportunity to display information about their peer review procedures in a standardised way as part of the book’s metadata in the Directory of Open Access Books. PRISM contributes to building trust in Open Access book publishing by improving transparency around the quality assurance process.
Key features:
Controlled Vocabulary: standardised set of terms to describe the peer review processes, promoting consistency, clarity, transparency and trust.
Title-Level Detail: provision of specific information about the peer review practices applied to each Open Access book, directly on the DOAB platform.
Catalogue-Level Overview: ability to apply across a publisher’s entire catalogue, showcasing the peer review processes that their titles undergo.
API Integration: accessibility to PRISM data through the DOAB API, allowing for inclusion in library databases and search tools.
Widget: possibility for publishers to use the widget on their webpages to show PRISM records about their catalogues or titles.
Engage with PRISM:
Join the community of publishers, librarians, and academic professionals who are already reaping the benefits of PRISM’s transparent peer review information service.
For Publishers: PRISM enables publishers to showcase their peer review practices at both the catalogue and book level, displaying their dedication to upholding academic standards and enhancing the credibility of their open access offerings.
For Librarians: The service provides librarians with a clear understanding of the quality assurance process(es) for each book, guiding researchers and students toward well-vetted scholarly resources with confidence.
For Researchers and Academics: PRISM allows researchers to discern the robustness of the peer review behind each monograph, aiding in the assessment of its scholarly merit and reliability.
For Students and General Readers: Access to the peer review details demystifies the quality checks behind open access books, informing choices for literature that is both authoritative and accessible.
For Funders: The visibility of detailed peer review information helps funders evaluate the rigour of the research they finance and supports the integrity of scholarly communications they endorse.
PRISM, provided by DOAB and part of the OPERAS suite of services, offers academic publishers a defined method to present their peer review practices, enhancing the transparency of open access monograph publishing.
