Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences – IBL PAN

IBL PAN Logo

IBL PAN is a highly recognized literary and cultural studies centre in Poland. Founded in 1948, the Institute focuses on literary and cultural studies in a comparative context, as well as on literary theory. IBL PAN is a leading national centre for documentation, bibliography and scholarly editions of Polish literature, as well as an early adopter of digital methods in the humanities. It was ranked in the ‘Excellent’ category (A+) in two most recent national evaluations of research institutions (2013 & 2017). In 2016 the European Commission awarded the Institute with the certificate of ‘HR Excellence in research’. The Institute currently employs approximately 100 researchers and is a doctoral-level teaching centre.

Logo OPERAS-PL

OPERAS-PL is the Polish OPERAS National Node lead by IBL-Pan to build up a national OPERAS community in Poland. The team’s mission is to bring together various stakeholders from the Polish social sciences and humanities (SSH) community: researchers, academic institutions, publishers, librarians and policy makers in order to implement new ideas, solutions, tools and workflows into scholarly communication in Poland. In the next few years OPERAS-PL will create a knowledge hub focusing on e-infrastructures, publishing tools and business models for the SSH.

Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center – PSNC

Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC) affiliated to the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences is an internationally known node of the European Research Area in the field of IT infrastructure of science and an important R&D center in the field of information and communication technologies (ICT). As a development centre of e-Infrastructure, PSNC designed and built the Metropolitan Network POZMAN, High Performance Computing Center and the national broadband network PIONIER, maintained and still developed by PSNC.

Projects developed at PSNC include cooperation with almost a thousand units from over 60 countries in the world, on six continents. All projects are focused on IT technology and concern new generation networks, grids, portals, digital libraries, IT energy efficiency, climate, weather, air quality, new sources of energy, digital humanities, personalized medicine, intelligent agriculture, industry 4.0, astronomy, bioinformatics, Big Data analysis, artificial intelligence, New Media, education, Smart City, cyber security. The list of areas of activity in which PSNC undertakes work is constantly expanding, providing an important example of taking up new technological challenges.

University of Silesia in Katowice

The University of Silesia in Katowice is the largest in Silesia and one of the largest in Poland – it educates more than 18,000 students in 8 faculties. The university is engaged in open science – it has introduced an Institutional Openness Policy and an innovative research data management program called “Data Steward.” Also associated with open science at the University are the Center for Scientific Information and Academic Library (CINiBA) and the University of Silesia Press, which publishes 44 academic journals and numerous monographs through dedicated open access platforms (journals.us.edu.pl and monograph.us.edu.pl). As part of its efforts to improve science assessment systems, the University has joined the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA).
The University is represented by 468 researchers in the humanities and 386 in the social sciences, among them a group of researchers associated with digital humanities and numerous interdisciplinary studies. The university pursues various grants and extensive international collaborations.
